Recent Honduras 1L Mission - Resourcing & Equipping 1L Reps to give away boards and start life groups. #OneLoveSkate

The month of December through the beginning of January has been extremely eventful with 1L Skate outreach. I was able to leave Wyoming and fly out to Maui for a few days and visit with Josh Marburger and his wonderful family. On Maui Josh and I were able to prepare for what was gonna be a super fun trip to the North Shore of Oahu.

1L Maui rep Sam Peralta and a local Maui skater, Braden also joined us on this divine trip to Oahu. The first night on Oahu we got to return and stay with pastor Allan in Waipahu at the Bethel Chapel Assembly of God. It was great getting to catch up with him as he shared words of wisdom with us over breakfast. We then got to make a stop at Surfing the Nations campus as the staff toured us around the new constructed building and shared their plans with it. It was a great opportunity to share with some STN staff about the 1L skate outreach’s vision. During this time we met the coolest skateboard/surfer chick, Abby Rogers. She spend the previous days praying that God would bring her something to help equip her, while she has been outreaching to a group of kids at the Banzai skatepark. We were able to bless her with a board and some stickers to give away for her outreach.

Sunset Beach Christian Church held the first ever Sonset Fest. Sonset Fest was not only a time of getting to connect with fellow ministries but it was a great time for 1L to share about what we do as a skateboard ministry. There were pro surfers giving their testimonies and sharing how their faith in Jesus keeps them doing what they do. We were honored to speak in front of the entire event about OneLove Skate outreach and share the whole vision. The cool thing about getting to speak was that we opened up for the founder of Hurley clothing, Bob Hurley himself. There were extraordinary people their that we did not expect to be there, but they got to witness to what 1L is all about.

With all of us there we were able to run a skate event at the nearby Banzai Skatepark. The youth pastor Joey Castorena from Sunset Beach Church and Abby Rogers from Surfing the Nations Oahu were a real asset to the event. They have built relationships at this local skatepark which helped draw positive attention to the skate event and OneLoveSkate. Please pray for both of them as they continue to be a positive presence for the Banzai skatepark. May they bring glory to Jesus on the North Shore through skateboarding.

Josh is doing big things with OneLove. I can testify to how hard he works daily with 1L Skate Outreach, while managing to stay on top of his position at Waipuna Chapel on Maui, being a devoted husband, and raising three loving little boys. Please pray for Josh and his family as they continue to grind daily to make 1L grow, and juggling to take on heavy schedules to stay devoted to their community and church at Waipuna Chapel.

For the most recent news. As many of you know God called Sam and I to Tegucigalpa, Honduras a few months back. We went with Pastor Janet Betsill from New Hope Maui Church to help equip the staff and leaders of Redenzion Church and on our off time to use 1L skate outreach as a tool to build relationships there and share about Jesus. Redenzion Church is home base for Pastor Jaime and Pastor Zuly Peñalba. Sam has gotten to visit this church and staff for many years now. During our recent time in Honduras we were able to reconnect with someone that Sam met on his past trips to Honduras, Christian Martinez. As soon as I met Christian for myself I right away could sense the Holy Spirit in him. He is 25 years old from the city of Tegucigalpa and he is blessed with many gifts. He is an amazing musician, skateboarder and student. He is always caring for his community and doing outreach with his church at Redenzion. Christian has a huge heart. He has no problem giving up his time to help minister to the people. He is involved with a ministry named Talita Cumi. Where every year they serve 1000’s of people a Christmas meal and share about the birth of Christ and why he died for us.

During our Honduras trip Christian helped set up a pivotal skateboard event located in downtown Tegucigalpa. He took us to El Obelisco skatepark to run the event. This skatepark was build and put together by the local skaters in the area. It was stunning to see their creativity and their craftsmanship and how much they cared about skateboarding in their community. If you don’t know many South American countries don’t have too many great spots to skateboard. Because of harsh road conditions and so many people. So it was great to see the bond all of the skaters have with each other. They consider themselves a family of skateboarders. In the area where the skatepark is located it is surrounded by a lot of brokenness. Many skaters and people in the area can easily find themselves troubled by drugs, and other heavy influences. Christian has an amazing testimony which we hope he can share with others through 1L skate.

Getting to witness Christian for myself and to continue to hear good things about Christian from his pastor and others. Through prayer and petition and stepping out in Faith, we can trust that Christian will be an incredible addition to the 1L skateboard staff. One Love Skate would like to introduce our newest member to the team. He will be the new leader for One Love Skate Honduras. As he continues to grow with Jesus, step out in Faith himself, and be the light to his family, friends and community. We can know that God will lead him to be the light and example to others and display what living One Love is all about. So please pray for Christian as he will be growing One Love Skate Outreach in Honduras. That he may be able to disciple others, spark tons of conversations through the use of product giveaways, skate events and life groups. As well, that he may connect with suppliers in his country to be able to print shirts, stickers, and make 1L skateboards more accessible for him. We are excited to see where God leads him and where God continues to take One Love Skate outreach. May we one day be able to giveaway a skateboard once a month at every skatepark in the World.
