7 #Sightings Pics from 2024

"I will give thanks to the LORD because of his righteousness; I will sing the praises of the name of the LORD Most High"

7.) Pukalani Acts 4:20 Group #Sightings

Acts 4:20 Groups have thrived this year  across all six Maui Skatepark communities! With Practice, Prayer, & Pizza, we’re living out One Love: 1 Hour, Once a Week, 1 Month at a Time."

6.) Camping & Intentional Time with One Love Leaders #Sightings

This year, Nicole had the incredible idea to host leaders from each Skatepark Community on Maui at our home each month for Testimonies, Training, and Team-Building. These gatherings outside of skating have deepened relationships with God and with one another. We’re so grateful for the amazing 'Team Jesus' leaders from churches across Maui and around the world!

The highlight photo above captures some fun in Hana with Elan (a very special One Love Rep & Skate Coach) & his ‘ohana. This time included Elan proposing to his wife, worshipping together, and starting a deeper discipleship journey—now enriched by reading Persuasive Apologetics. These moments are full of inspiration for our lives and the entire One Love Skate community!

5.) Dave Jonsson Ollies After Broken Leg #Sightings

We were honored to have Pro Skater Dave Jonsson fly in from Canada for our second One Love Lahaina event. Despite surviving a plane crash and breaking his femur, Dave powerfully shared his testimony from Psalm 40 about God lifting him from the pit and putting a 'new song' in his mouth. He then amazed everyone by ollieing over 6 kids, inspiring the crowd, and helping make the evening unforgettable. Dave returned in November for SHREDSGIVING, speaking to One Love Clubs at Doris Todd School and King Kekaulike High School—complete with a 'Kickflip for Kulolo'!

4.) Chris Verdi Sharing About Hope as a Quadripelegic #Sightings

Chris, once a student at Pukalani Elementary and King Kekaulike High, shared his powerful testimony at the skatepark about becoming a quadriplegic after an accident at Big Beach. The entire skatepark listened respectfully as he spoke of finding hope and help in Jesus, a journey from death to life.

We are deeply grateful for the glimmers of hope that emerge even in tragedy. While we mourn Jayden’s passing in 2015 at the same beach (#LongLiveJayden), we celebrate that Chris survived his accident years later and is now inspiring others—like Zayden, who is thriving in both skateboarding and life. These stories remind us of the power of hope and redemption in the One Love of Jesus.

3.) Nicole Transition to Doris Todd #Sightings

Excited for this new season as Nicole steps into teaching 8th grade at a Christian school, helping meet a need while keeping her heart 'set on things above.' This role not only supports our boys in receiving a quality education during this crucial time but also creates opportunities for impact. Alongside our 3 boys, 11 other students submitted 'Pastoral Reference' letters and applied to be 'One Love Leaders,' paving the way to help more students Know the Love & Show the Love."

2.) 'EQUIPPING TEAMS' #Sightings

Grateful to Waipuna Chapel for hosting our 'Equipping Dinner' on 9/11/24! This special evening brought together 1L Reps (Spiritual Encouragers) and 1L Skate Coaches (Skateboarding Mentors) to launch the Fall Season of One Love Skate. We also celebrated the powerful 'Ripple Effect' in partnership with Disciple Cycles, equipping teams to inspire and disciple skateboarders for Christ."

1.) FLIP IT MESSAGES #Sightings

This year, 'Flip it to Praise' messages featuring Kickflips for Cash were shared in at least 12 church services where Joshua preached alongside One Love Teams.
These powerful moments helped connect skateboarders with churches like Waipuna Chapel, Hope Chapel North Shore, Pleasant City Church, Hope Community Church, Element Church, and Valley Isle Fellowship.

Jesus’ call to 'Flip it' challenges us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us: 'You have heard that it was said, "Love your neighbor and hate your enemy." But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven.' (Matthew 5:43-45). More 'Flip it' lessons can be found in Matthew 5:38, 34, 32, 28, and 22.

Thanks for celebrating some of these #Sightings with us in 2024 and helping many KNOW THE LOVE & SHOW THE LOVE

#1stTre & @OneLoveSkate 2025 Plan
We’re so excited for the 'Skate for Life' opportunities coming in 2025! Grateful for the seasons with @OneLoveSkate, where we focus on the Core 4 Skills, each paired with a 'Skill / Verse / Value' to guide growth. With a strong process in place—including applications, pastoral references, and background checks—we’re equipping a team of Reps and Coaches to ⬆️ Know the Love and ⬇️ Show the Love in their communities. Thank you for being part of this mission!
